As the new academic year unfolds, the Alpha Phi Omega of Mindanao State University-General Santos City (MSU-GSC) distributed school essentials to students at the university library today, August 18. The initiative welcomed students from various colleges as they entered another academic journey in the university.
“Three years na,’’ Ma'am Janifa Macalangcom, one of the staff in the university library, answered when asked by Bagwis when this initiative started.

“Noong last year, as in excited talaga yung mga freshmen at saka mas marami tayo noong last year,” Macalangcom recalled.
She also acknowledged the limited dissemination of prior information this year compared to last year due to the group’s busyness.
“Ito ngayon, hindi kami masyado nakafocus kasi dahil sa [opening] salvo na tayo doon sa gym,” she explained.
The chapter also proudly took part in the MSU-GSC “Salubong: Grand Opening Salvo,” where they extended a warm welcome to both freshmen and returning Iskolar ng Bayan. The group handed out free ice cream, school supplies, and offered assistance to students.
On the other hand, Macalangcom assured that this will remain a yearly activity for Alpha Phi Omega and the university library administration.
“Every first day of classes, actually dapat sa [opening] salvo, kaso nauna kami doon, namigay na kami ng mga ice cream at saka ballpen din,” she assured.
The initiative lasted only for a short while, prioritizing students who arrived earlier than 8 in the morning to receive the school essentials.
