PIONEERING SCRIBES: Bagwis scribblers take home 12 awards in 26th Word Cup

On their first time joining a national competition, the four writers and alumni-chaperone of Bagwis took home 12 awards across the eight individual events during the conduct of 26th Word Cup Philippines held at Angels Hills' Retreat and Formation Center, Tagaytay City, August 29-31.


Bringing the pride of the publication, Lynxter Gybriel Leaño, Associate Editor, secured first places in Editorial Writing-Filipino and Copyreading and Headline Writing-Filipino while he was also declared as third place in News Writing-Filipino.

Meanwhile, Vaness Villafuerte, Associate Editor, bagged three silver medals in the events of News Writing-Filipino, Sports Writing-Filipino, and Copyreading and Headline Writing-English.


Furthermore, Maria Nicole Silva, News Head, captured two silver medals in News Writing-English and Mobile Journalism-Filipino.


Niel Zsun John Vega, Sports Head, won 2nd place in Science and Technology Writing-English and an Honorable Mention for Sports Writing-English.


On the other hand, Leonard Tucjayao, chaperone and former Bagwis member managed to get the 1st place in Copyreading and Headline Writing-Engliah and 3rd place in Feature Writing-English under the School Paper Adviser Category.


Participated by over 600 campus journalists and school paper advisers from across the Philippines, the National Conference on Journalism and Contest in its goal to strengthen campus journalism continues to champion the role of young journalists as storytellers and truth-seekers and ensure that campus press remains active, credible and relevant.
