Displaying her mathematical prowess against the competitors, a Grade 12 learner under the Legendary Mentors showcased her brilliance in the Individual Mathematics Quiz, clinching 1st place during the Academic Night held at the University Gymnasium, October 12.
Farrah Elysha Jen M. Dela Calzada, a STEM student from Senior High School (SHS), did not expect to secure the top spot as she felt nervous competing against college representatives.
“Kinabahan talaga ako kuya. Kasi grade 12 ako, tapos kalaban ko college. So, grabe ang kabado ako kuya. But then, I'm really thankful ako sa mga seniors ko, sa classmates ko, sa student managers, sa mga teachers, faculty,” she expressed during an interview with Bagwis.
Dela Calzada had joined last year’s SHS eliminations but did not qualify.
This time, however, she managed to claim the victory against students from the College of Education.
“Narinig ko na ngayong year, mag-collab ang educ and senior high. Nag-times 2 ang kabado kasi against ako sa mga, ano, first-year, second-year, third-year, fourth-year college [students]. So, like, unexpected talaga na napili ako sa individual,” she explained.
After learning about the collaboration, she doubled her efforts in reviewing, hoping only for a podium finish—but to her surprise, she was declared champion.
According to Himig Isko, official student publication of MSU-GenSan SHS, Dela Calzada’s feat rekindles SHS’ winning streak after six years, following Woodbrey Sinamban’s triumph in the 2019 Intramurals which is a testament that the spirit of mathematical brilliance in Senior High still lives on.
