SSC MSU-GenSan lifts students’ burden of paying insurance fee thru BOR approval

Burden of paying the insurance fee by the MSU-GenSan students during enrolment has now been lifted as the resolution made by the SSC entitled “Resolution Urging the Mindanao State University System Board of Regents to Include a Student Insurance Plan in the Coverage of Student Tuition Fee Subsidy” was approved by the MSU System Board of Regent during the 272nd BOR meeting at CHED Conference Room, Diliman Quezon City, September 9.

The said measure was presented by SSC during the 73rd Executive Meeting of the FEMSUSSCO to address the growing need for financial aid and welfare support among students, particularly those from low-income backgrounds, as cited by their Facebook post.

“Upon consulting with other campuses in the system, most of the campuses have an insurance plan included in their budget/tuition fee subsidy from the free tuition law. And as we all know, we pay for our insurance plan for one academic year,” Hon. Ramzel Ivan Hugh Delloro, SSC President said.

Hon. Delloro also stated that the students will automatically be enrolled in an insurance plan, which is part of the policy, to ensure proper bidding with student representation.

“This is also a way for us to comply with CHED policies regarding student safety and to ensure student welfare during off-campus activities,” the president emphasized.

The target date for the implementation of the Student Insurance Plan of the university will take effect in the next academic year.

On the other hand, the policy entitled “Resolution Urging the Mindanao State University Board of Regents to form a System-Wide University Artificial Intelligence Advisory Board (UAIAB) to Aid the MSU System in Continuously Monitoring AI Responsible Use in the MSU System” made by the council was forwarded to the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs for resubmission and will be presented again at the next BOR meeting.

According to their Facebook post, the resolution seeks to address the need for rules governing the responsible application of artificial intelligence in academic matters.
