SSC’s Libreng Sakay marks 7th Run, reincludes Gensan route

The Supreme Student Council (SSC) of MSU-Gensan  wrapped up the 7th run of its Libreng Sakay sa Unang Lakbay on August 11, 2025, continuing its mission to provide free rides for students returning to campus for the start of School Year 2025–2026.

This  year's Opening Salvo deployed 10 jeepneys in partnership with SK Gensan and the DALATUDCO Cooperative, benefiting a total of 220 students.

The program  also covered  Polomolok, Alabel, Malapatan, Koronadal, and Tupi. Walk-ins were accepted for the Alabel and Malapatan routes on August 11, following earlier walk-in schedules for Koronadal and Tupi on August 9 and 10.

SSC Senator and Chairperson for Students’ Rights and Welfare CJ Salarza, the lead implementer of the project, described Libreng Sakay as “a one-of-a-kind initiative, especially in today’s economic landscape.”

He stressed that transportation is often one of the least prioritized needs in General Santos City and highlighted the program as an example of strong collaboration between the SSC, SK federations, and local government units.

“This is proof that a student organization like ours can work hand-in-hand with LGUs to create projects that truly benefit MSU students here in General Santos,” Salarza said.

First launched on September 15, 2022, the Libreng Sakay program was designed to ease the transportation burden on students and jeepney drivers amid rising fuel costs. Over the years, it has expanded its coverage across Region 12, now serving more areas and more students each year.

The SSC expressed its gratitude to its partner LGUs, SK federations, and DALATUDCO  for making the 7th run possible, reaffirming its commitment to projects that deliver practical assistance to students while fostering unity within the community.
