Vanguards clasp 2-peat victory in yell competition, Reapers hold first win in wannabe; celebrating freshies night with savannah feels

As the roaring sound of pride and celebration dominated the University Gymnasium of Mindanao State University – General Santos City (MSU-GSC), first-Year students from College of Social Science and Humanities hailed as champion for Yell competition, holding back-to-back reign, while Lady Gaga of College of Agriculture (COA) clenched first place in Wannabe Competition during the Freshies Night 2025, resembling Sundown Safari vibes.


With its theme “Into the Wild Nights of Savannah,” various colleges showcased exceptional talents and skills through camaraderie and sportsmanship as they presented remarkable yells and impersonations.

Building a Welcoming Bliss


In an interview, Kyle Neo M. Inocelda, SSC Senator under Comittee in Sports, Literary, and Cultural Affairs, articulated the essence of the said event, making every freshies welcomed in MSU-GSC.


“It's actually a culture na rin sa ating university to welcome each year our students na bago pa lang sa ano. And to feel the warmth of the seniors na they can feel na they are welcome sa ating university,” he articulated.


Inocelda further explained the preparations created by the council, from internal and external factors including its rescheduling for the event and the sentiments of constituents..


“I think it's inevitable. I choose not to engage on those kind of issues kasi I would rather not waste my energy there. Pero sa preparation talaga akong nag-focus, and wala akong makakontrol doon. Issue is issue, but I'm thankful with my council also, who is also defending us,” he explained


He also verbalized his gratitude to all MSU students for supporting Freshies Night 2025, acknowledging and considering the varying sentiments of the freshmen to help improved their committee’s initiatives.


Celebrating Victorious Bash


As each colleges compete with energetic atmosphere during the yell competition, College of Agriculture (COA) clutched second place, followed by College of Natural Science and Mathematics (CNSM), College of Education (COED), College of Engineering (COE), College of Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences (CFAS), College of Business Administration and Accountancy (CBAA), and College of Nursing (CON) respectively.


CSSH further received most energetic award, while COED acknowledged as most creative, and COA being most synchronized. 


Moreover, in wannabe competition, COED clamped first runner up, followed by COE, CFAS, CSSH, CBAA, and CNSM.


During the celebration, officers from Freshies Union took their oath to service, pointing to its significance to take hold into office with transparency and accountability.


Selected students also given recognition as Freshie Fashionistas, mirroring their fashion talents and senses for the said activity.


The event concluded with the TikTok Dance Party and the Rave Party with DJ ECY. 


Freshies Night served as a welcoming activity that let freshies feel at home, starting a new journey, along with academic and personal experiences within the university. 


Such activities also allow linkages to develop among the freshies through fun-filled team competition, celebrating unique backgrounds and talents within an inclusive space through vibrant events and spirited culture as it makes the university experience memorable.
